Harlene Press is the publisher behind the Captain Harlene Mysteries, a children’s detective series set in Maplewood, Colorado. The stories follow Captain Harlene and Bud as they investigate curious cases, including a rabbit on a rooftop, a river race mystery, and a lantern that glows after dark. Through clues, old newspapers, local rumors, and unusual sightings, the books invite young readers to observe closely, ask questions, and explore the wonder in everyday life.

Beyond its mystery books, Harlene Press offers activities that help children take part in the investigations. Its detective resources include a Junior Investigator Kit, printable badge, clue notebook page, fingerprint sheet, mini mysteries, logic puzzles, hidden-clue games, and decoding activities. Readers can also explore Maplewood Gazette archives and Captain Harlene’s notes. The site provides resources for parents and educators, including classroom and library information, reading guides, and activity downloads, and welcomes inquiries from schools, libraries, homeschool groups, and reading programs. Harlene Press also offers a monthly Gazette correspondence featuring case files and detective challenges.
