Harwich Town Council serves as the local governing body for the town of Harwich, having succeeded Harwich Borough Council in 1974. The Council is tasked with the administration of essential community services, including the management of allotment land, a putting green, a skate park, and a crazy golf area within the town's leisure space. The Council's operations are overseen by a team of sixteen elected Councillors, who serve four-year terms, with key roles such as the Town Mayor and Deputy Mayor appointed annually.

The Council meets every six weeks to discuss town planning applications and other essential matters, while various committees focus on finance, environmental issues, and community welfare. The administration is conducted at The Guildhall, where a dedicated staff supports the Council's objectives. Harwich Town Council not only enhances local governance but also strengthens community ties by collaborating with residents and local organizations to promote a vibrant and engaged town life
