Hat Fair is Winchester’s free, family-friendly festival of street performance and outdoor arts, bringing the city centre to life for a weekend each summer. On 3–4 July 2027, visitors can explore performances across bustling streets and tucked-away venues, with a programme spanning street theatre, live music, comedy, dance, circus and aerial acts. The festival is designed for people to wander between stages, discover unexpected performances and enjoy most events without charge. A small number of indoor or limited-capacity events may require advance tickets.
Known for playful audience participation and spectacular visual performances, Hat Fair offers experiences ranging from cheeky busking to large-scale outdoor shows and intimate encounters. The festival is run by Play to the Crowd, an arts and education charity that also supports Theatre Royal Winchester, creative opportunities, youth theatre and community arts across the district. Visitors can support Hat Fair and the charity through donations or volunteering, with volunteer opportunities helping bring Winchester’s streets to life.
