Hawea Hunting

Lake Hawea Hunting Safaris is a New Zealand hunting outfitter based in the Otago high country, offering guided hunts across exclusive private properties and alpine wilderness. Led by fifth-generation local Chris McCarthy, who has more than 20 years of outfitting experience, the company combines local knowledge, professional guiding and Kiwi hospitality. Its hunting options include genuine free-range and private-estate hunts for red stag and fallow deer, as well as hunts for tahr and chamois.

Additional species, including South Pacific elk and whitetail, sika, Arapawa ram, boar and goat, can be added to packages or arranged separately. Guests can choose combination or group hunts, spot-and-stalk outings, helicopter-supported alpine hunts, or wilderness trips with basic tent camps. The company also welcomes non-hunters and offers activities in the Wanaka area.
