HCL Education

HCL Education Centre is a Singapore Chinese-language education provider founded in December 2006 by former Catholic High School teacher Wang Deqing. The organisation has grown to 16 centres and serves students from nursery through Secondary 4. Its small-group classes are tailored to students’ proficiency levels and supported by follow-up guidance, with the aim of making Chinese enjoyable while improving academic performance and examination readiness.

HCL offers six programme types: play-based Chinese classes for nursery and kindergarten children; foundation classes and composition courses for Primary 1–6; enrichment classes for Primary 3–6; and express and higher Chinese courses for Secondary 1–4. Its teaching methods include structured oral examination practice, a staged approach to composition, and a “Three Focuses, Two Ideas” method for reading comprehension. These approaches develop speaking strategies, writing, comprehension, analysis, and expression. The centre also provides course schedules, holiday programmes, student learning experiences, and examination results information. HCL reports that many former students have achieved strong results in Singapore’s Primary School Leaving Examination and O-Level Chinese examinations.
