About Headway
Headway is a brand that provides support and resources for individuals with brain injuries in New Zealand. Every day, 90 New Zealanders sustain a brain injury, and Headway aims to assist these individuals in their journey towards recovery. Brain injuries, also known as head injuries, occur when living brain tissue suffers damage.
Headway focuses on acquired brain injuries (ABI), which are injuries that happen after birth and are not related to congenital disorders. ABIs can be caused by trauma or medical problems such as aneurysms, tumors, and strokes. Headway offers a wide range of services to support individuals with brain injuries.
They provide education, navigation, and support groups to help individuals and their families cope with the challenges of brain injuries. These services address physical challenges, cognitive impairments, and communication difficulties that may arise from a brain injury. Headway also organizes activities, news, and events to create a sense of community and engagement.
