The Healthcare Education Project (HEP) is a community-based advocacy organization working to protect and expand access to quality, affordable healthcare. A collaborative initiative of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East and the Greater New York Hospital Association, HEP partners with individuals, healthcare providers, and civic and religious leaders in neighborhoods across New York. Its work combines education, advocacy, and coalition building to help people understand healthcare issues and take action.
HEP provides free resources, including a video library, healthcare glossary, brochure, and information on current policy issues affecting healthcare in New York State. Its materials explain healthcare topics in accessible language and help communities stay informed about changes that may affect their access to care. The organization also shares healthcare headlines, events, and opportunities for public engagement.
In addition, HEP can facilitate Mental Health First Aid training for churches, schools, community centers, and other organizations. The training teaches participants how to support someone experiencing a mental health or substance-use crisis, as well as provide help in non-crisis situations.
