About Healthy Families Lab
The Healthy Families Lab is a clinical health psychology research facility at the University of British Columbia, led by Dr. Lianne Tomfohr-Madsen. Committed to enhancing health outcomes for vulnerable populations, the lab focuses on critical areas affecting families, such as infant and child sleep, and the health of mothers and fathers.
Researchers at the lab investigate the predictors and consequences of poor sleep in children, both in typically developing populations and those facing health challenges like pediatric cancer and traumatic brain injury. The lab also examines the impact of maternal adversity and psychological distress on child health.
To address these issues, the Healthy Families Lab develops and tests interventions like Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), aiming to alleviate maternal stress and anxiety, as well as postpartum mood problems. Situated on the traditional territory of the Musqueam people, the lab embodies a rich history of community learning and cultural heritage in its pursuit of knowledge and well-being for families.
