About Healthy Materials Lab at Parsons School of Design
Healthy Materials Lab is a design research lab based at Parsons School of Design. Their mission is to prioritize people's health in all design decisions. They are dedicated to raising awareness about toxic chemicals in building products and providing resources to designers and architects to create healthier living spaces.
The lab consists of an interdisciplinary and diverse team of graduate students, alumni, and faculty with backgrounds in media, architecture, design, community development, education, and business. Their goals include improving common building materials to reduce exposure to toxins, promoting knowledge and accessibility of healthier alternatives, empowering communities to remove toxins, educating professionals and students, and collaborating with manufacturers to drive innovation. They also have a collaborative project called the Healthy Affordable Materials Project, which aims to enhance the lives of affordable housing residents by minimizing the use of toxic materials in building products.
Healthy Materials Lab is supported by grants from The JPB Foundation and the Angelo Donghia Foundation
