Heartland Journeys

Heartland Journeys is an online nature and cultural storytelling initiative produced by Gondwana Link, sharing the places, people and ecosystems of the Great Southern region of Western Australia. It invites visitors to explore landscapes across the Gondwana Link, from tall forests and mallee to wildflower-rich heath and temperate woodland, while learning about their ecological richness and restoration.

The site offers an interactive map of key places, ideas for journeys, bird and wildflower lists, travel tips and insights into local nature. Visitors can also watch, listen to and read stories about the land’s ancient origins, wildlife, plants and community conservation efforts. Its collection includes podcasts about landcare, environment-themed stories from locals, scientists and naturalists, and perspectives from First Nations Elders and knowledge holders.

Heartland Journeys aims to deepen understanding of living landscapes and the cultures connected to them, including Noongar culture. The project acknowledges Traditional Owners and shares knowledge that can inspire care for the environment and the communities that live within it. It is supported by contributors, volunteers and donations.
