About HEAS Vienna
HEAS Vienna is an interdisciplinary research network hosted by the University of Vienna. Comprising seven research units across five faculties/centres, it brings together excellence and expertise from various scientific disciplines. HEAS focuses on Human Evolution and Archaeological Sciences and emphasizes the study of biological and cultural evolution together.
The network integrates natural scientific methods with archaeological and historical research to broaden our knowledge of human evolution, past cultures, and societies. HEAS employs state-of-the-art knowledge, methods, and approaches, including virtual anthropology, 3D shape analysis, ancient DNA analysis, and residue analysis. It also supports the exploration of various subjects, such as behaviour, genetics of diseases, stable isotope analysis, radiocarbon dating, geoarchaeology, and more.
Through collaboration, the network aims to enhance academic excellence, internationalization, and the establishment of research clusters. HEAS also engages with the public through events, talks, and a strong online presence
