The Swiss Midwives Association (Schweizerischer Hebammenverband, SHV) represents midwives and supports families seeking guidance and care throughout pregnancy, birth and early parenthood. Its website helps people find a midwife by canton and provides information about midwifery services, including antenatal care, birth preparation, birth support, postnatal care, postnatal recovery, breastfeeding and infant feeding. It also offers guidance on pregnancy, informed decision-making, stillbirth and the loss of a child, with information about advice and support services for challenging situations.

The association works to maintain and develop the midwifery profession, describing midwives as an integral part of healthcare. Its engagement includes midwives working in hospitals and community settings, as well as those involved in research, teaching or training. The site features practical information for expectant parents, including details about health insurance coverage and the role of a hospital-affiliated midwife. Visitors can also access the SHV podcast “Herztöne,” provide feedback and learn about the association’s values of respect, trust and dignity.
