About The Heckscher Museum of Art
Dove/Torr Cottage, located at 30 Centershore Road in Centerport, NY, is a historic site preserved by The Heckscher Museum of Art, honoring American modernist artists Arthur Dove and Helen Torr. Occupying the cottage from 1938 to 1946, these artists created many acclaimed works inspired by the surrounding natural beauty. The cottage not only stands as a testament to their artistic journey but also serves as a vibrant community resource today.
The cottage features an outdoor soundwalk, launched in November 2023 for the 25th anniversary of its acquisition by the museum, allowing visitors to engage with the site through an innovative self-guided tour via the Bloomberg Connects app. The grounds host special events and exhibitions, including a recently unveiled sculpture inspired by Helen Torr. While the interior is currently under renovation, the cottage will host open house events in the future, offering unique opportunities to delve into its rich history.
