HeenBook is a local history organization dedicated to preserving, protecting, and sharing the stories and vintage photographs of rural Norwegian-American communities in west central Minnesota. Its work brings people together around family connections, shared images, and memories, creating a community for exchanging and appreciating local heritage. HeenBook offers resources for exploring the past, including materials on libraries and archives, school and church records, public and private records, and historical terms.
Its collections document community life through building preservation, photographs, and written and oral histories. Featured preservation projects include the Heen Barn, Heen Granary, Ellefson House, and School House. The site also presents family histories, including the Gjevre and Homme families, Ole Aarseth, A.
T. Ellingboe, and Peter Holien, alongside topics such as life in Lysefjord, prosperity, children, and farming. Through these collections and educational resources, HeenBook helps visitors discover and share the people, places, and experiences that shaped the region’s Norwegian-American heritage
