Heidy Sumei Chuang Inc. presents the fine art watercolor paintings of Taiwanese-American artist Heidy Sumei Chuang, based in Atlanta, Georgia. Her work draws inspiration from quiet light, gardens, and the beauty of the earth, inviting viewers into a contemplative space of wonder. Flowers, leaves, petals, and branches are translated into poetic forms and lines, with close attention to the spaces between them. Chuang’s paintings explore the fragility of nature and a human yearning for what is difficult to express.
Her creative practice is grounded in respect for the materials of painting, including textured paper, brushes, water, and richly saturated pigments. She primarily uses colors extracted from rocks and minerals, allowing the qualities of these earth-derived materials to shape her images. Watercolor is central to her work for its ability to convey light and mystery through the paper. In addition to painted media, Chuang works in floral design. She holds a B.F.A. in painting from Washington University and an M.F.A. from Boston University.
