The Heinrich Pferdmenges-Stiftung is a nonprofit foundation dedicated to nature and landscape conservation in the Wadden Sea. Founded in 1996 by Helga Jürgen and Irmgard Kreutzer in memory of their father, textile entrepreneur Heinrich Pferdmenges, it carries forward his “Idea of Spiekeroog” and his commitment to the island’s sustainable development. The foundation aims to protect the region’s distinctive natural environment and preserve the Wadden Sea between the German-Dutch and German-Danish borders.
Rather than offering commercial products, the foundation supports selected projects that advance conservation, education, research and long-term planning. Its initiatives include backing the Hermann Lietz School on Spiekeroog, where it promotes meaningful, sustainable learning, and supporting the National Park House Wittbülten, which shares knowledge about the Wadden Sea and assists scientific work. Since 2020, the foundation has also supported Spiekeroog municipality’s sustainability initiative through a five-year collaboration to develop and implement shared plans. Through these partnerships, it helps turn Heinrich Pferdmenges’s vision into lasting action for the island and its natural surroundings.
