The Heinrich Hössli Foundation is a Swiss charitable foundation dedicated to supporting scientific projects related to LGBTQ history in Switzerland. Founded in 2009 by the Swiss Gay Archives Association, which maintains a major collection on the country’s gay history, the foundation honours Heinrich Hössli (1784–1864), an early intellectual figure in the gay rights movement. Its work helps researchers and cultural practitioners develop projects that preserve, explore and make LGBTQ histories more visible.
Supported initiatives span research, literature, film, audio and visual arts. They include “Panico Morale,” a six-part podcast tracing three decades of LGBTQIA+ activism in Italian-speaking Switzerland; a Swiss Pavilion project for the 2026 Venice Biennale that reopens the archive as a space for artistic engagement; and Jessica Jurassica’s historical novel “Annas beste Freundin,” which brings Swiss lesbian and women’s history into view. The foundation also helped fund the digitisation and careful restoration of “Wild Boy,” a 1995 Swiss documentary, to support its long-term preservation and public accessibility.
