Helleday

The Helleday Laboratory is a cancer research group based in Solna, Sweden, bringing together expertise from academia and industry. Its team includes molecular biologists, medicinal chemists, pharmacologists, biochemists and practicing clinicians, united by a focus on translating fundamental discoveries into better outcomes for patients. The laboratory studies how cancer cells’ DNA damage response and metabolic pathways differ from those of healthy cells, with the aim of developing therapies that selectively target disease cells while limiting harm to normal tissue.

Its research areas include DNA damage and repair, DNA replication and transcription, and cancer metabolism, including nucleotide metabolism. The group also works on the chemical biology of organocatalysis in OGG1. Its research platform provides biochemistry, assay development, in vitro pharmacology, disease models and tissue handling. The laboratory is associated with the development of the synthetic lethal approach of using PARP inhibitors against BRCA-mutated cancers, and investigates further strategies to inhibit DNA repair, including approaches with potential to advance into clinical use. The group shares its research through publications and scientific updates.
