Helpful Heroes, formerly known as Hidrent, connects homeowners with off-duty firefighters and EMTs for household projects. Its mission is to help community heroes supplement their income while giving customers convenient access to people they can trust. Customers can submit a project request online or use the phone scheduling service to explain their needs and receive help finding an available local professional.

Services include general handyman work, furniture moving and assembly, hauling, holiday light installation, gutter cleaning, hanging items, smoke detector tasks, light fixture work, and TV wall mounting. The platform aims to provide upfront pricing, and customers pay through its cashless system after the work is completed. Helpful Heroes verifies employment for professionals joining its network; firefighters and EMTs also undergo background screening through their fire station or employer.

If a firefighter is unavailable, the company may use skilled technicians referred by trusted network members. Availability depends on whether a registered professional is near the customer
