HEM Foundation

HEM Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on advancing health equity for people and families affected by sickle cell disease and other blood disorders. Its approach recognizes that chronic illness affects more than physical health, with mental well-being, medical trauma, access to care, education, and social barriers also shaping people’s lives. The foundation works to support the whole person through education, community connection, wellness experiences, practical resources, and opportunities for financial support.

Its programs address mental and emotional well-being and offer tools for stress regulation, connection, and everyday wellness. HEM Foundation also provides scholarships for students committed to healthcare, advocacy, and health equity; applications for 2027 are scheduled to open in March. Community events include THRIVE, an immersive wellness experience, and a free Sickle Cell Family Wellness Day featuring education, family activities, and connection. The organization also sells a limited-edition sickle cell awareness coin, with proceeds supporting its programs, scholarships, and community initiatives. Through these efforts, HEM Foundation aims to educate, connect, empower, and help communities thrive.
