The James E. Hendry Chapter of the American Hibiscus Society is a nonprofit organization based in Fort Myers, Florida. Founded in 1952, it is the society’s oldest chapter and is named for founding member James E. Hendry, Jr. The chapter encourages the development and improvement of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis throughout Southwest Florida, while sharing information about growing, propagating, and caring for hibiscus.
Its activities bring together people interested in the culture and cultivation of these tropical plants. Members can access care guidance covering pruning, fertilization, insecticides, and propagation, and take part in general meetings, workshops, and social events. The chapter also promotes the exchange of hibiscus knowledge and collaborates with the American Hibiscus Society and other chapters.
Each year, it holds an annual hibiscus show and sale, participates in shows organized by other chapters, and supports civic beautification and conservation interests. Its website features show results, photographs, videos, news, and examples of member-grown varieties, alongside information about upcoming meetings and sales.
