HART, the Henfield Area Response Team, is a community-based volunteer organisation providing emergency medical support across Henfield and nearby villages. Its trained local responders are dispatched by the South East Coast Ambulance Service to deliver immediate, potentially life-saving care while an ambulance is on its way. HART also supports public access to defibrillators, maintaining around 30 devices across the local area and checking that they are ready for use.

The organisation works to make these defibrillators accessible around the clock and shares information about their locations and emergency use. Its activities include public education, with opportunities to learn CPR and basic life support at no charge, although donations are welcomed. HART also recruits community responders and directs prospective volunteers to the ambulance service’s application and training process.

Donations and grants help fund replacement defibrillator batteries and electrodes, maintain the emergency Land Rover, and sustain the team’s community services. HART encourages residents to know how to contact emergency services, locate nearby defibrillators, and help keep local equipment available for emergencies
