About HenriquesLab
HenriquesLab, the AI-driven Optical Biology Research Group, is a research team hosted at Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier (ITQB NOVA), with links to UCL and the Francis Crick Institute. The group combines artificial intelligence, microscopy and optical biology to develop tools and approaches for studying biological systems. Its work includes machine learning-driven adaptive microscopy for viral infection studies, AI-powered microscopes that adjust imaging illumination, phototoxicity measurement, adaptive live imaging and nanoscale mapping of infection.
The lab also develops and shares research technologies and software, with projects and publications including ReScale4DL, Rxiv-Maker and mAIcrobe. Its research brings together scientists and trainees, including postdoctoral researchers and PhD students, and is supported by collaborations and research funding such as a La Caixa Foundation Health Research grant. Alongside research and publications, HenriquesLab provides opportunities for collaboration, shares code, and participates in scientific outreach and microscopy events.
Through these activities, the group advances AI-enabled imaging methods for life-sciences research
