The Hereford Cattle Society champions the UK’s native Hereford breed and supports breeders, farmers and others involved in the beef industry. It promotes Herefords as adaptable cattle suited to commercial and pedigree herds, including use in dairy herds, as terminal sires and as suckler cows. The breed is highlighted for easy calving, efficient beef production, strong maternal traits and performance from grass.
The Society provides resources on breed history, herd management and performance recording, including guidance on Breedplan, scanning and linear scoring. Members and prospective buyers can use its online tools to search animals, members and estimated breeding values, and find stock or semen for sale. The Society also supports animal registration, DNA testing, imports and exports, and auction sales.
Its activities include organising events, shows and sales, recognising achievements through awards, and sharing industry information through news, a media centre and the Hereford Happenings newsletter. It offers membership information, merchandise and connections to Hereford organisations, youth groups, associations and clubs. The Society is based in Hereford, England.
