The Heritage Game is an innovative initiative dedicated to enhancing community engagement and democratic participation in cultural heritage, particularly in low-density territories. With a focus on gamification strategies, the project aims to develop frameworks and tools that empower local communities to actively participate in heritage work. Co-funded by the European Union, The Heritage Game emphasizes collaboration among local residents, university students, and academics, fostering partnerships that promote practice-oriented learning.

The project encompasses five key work packages: project management, best practices, methodology development, community engagement implementation, and dissemination. Key activities include analyzing successful community-based gamification strategies, creating a scalable gamification model, and developing an accessible app to support heritage-oriented work. Target groups for this initiative include local communities from seven participating countries, university students, and professionals in academia and the heritage sector. By championing community-led solutions and sharing the benefits of gamification, The Heritage Game seeks to redefine how cultural heritage is valued and preserved.
