HerStory: Educate a Woman, Educate a Nation is a documentary film and education initiative focused on girls’ education, global development, and narrowing achievement gaps. Its film follows three high-achieving Ghanaian students in their final year of secondary school, exploring how young women from disadvantaged circumstances pursue education and what supports their success. Charlotte, a student leader navigating an unstable home life; Esther, who balances school, household responsibilities, and work; and Lilly, who has declined marriage proposals to continue her studies, illustrate personal and cultural challenges girls may face.
The project uses their stories to highlight the potential of girls and the wider benefits of educating women, including stronger family well-being and community development. Alongside the documentary, HerStory is advancing its work through the establishment of the TWII Foundation, which provides college scholarships for girls seeking to become the first in their families to graduate from college. Through filmmaking and scholarship support, the initiative draws attention to educational opportunity and the achievement gap between advantaged and disadvantaged students.
