Hexenzunft Eppingen

Hexenzunft Eppingen e. V. is a carnival association dedicated to preserving and sharing the traditions of Fasnet in Eppingen. Founded in 1969, the group grew from local interest sparked by the region’s established carnival witches. Its activities bring together active and supporting members, with the Mischtkrabben—mist crows—serving as a distinctive companion group and symbol associated with Eppingen.

The association takes part each year in numerous carnival parades in Germany and abroad, traveling with a converted witch-themed wagon topped by a model of Eppingen’s Pfeiferturm. Members wear colorful traditional costumes, including individually hand-carved wooden masks, patterned clothing, red scarves, striped socks and straw shoes, and carry brooms. From 2003 to 2018, the group hosted an annual nighttime parade followed by a carnival village, welcoming participating groups and spectators to Eppingen. The association has also contributed two public sculptures to the city: an Eppingen witch and a Mischtkrabb. Through its events, appearances, images and online information, Hexenzunft Eppingen shares its history and local carnival customs with members, residents and visitors.
