Hudson Highlands Land Trust (HHLT) is a nonprofit organization working with local partners and communities to protect the natural areas, wildlife habitat, and resources of New York’s Hudson Highlands. Located less than 50 miles north of New York City, the region offers scenic landscapes and opportunities for outdoor recreation. HHLT’s work includes land conservation and stewardship, regional advocacy and public policy, education and outreach, and efforts to support resilient landscapes and address climate change.
The organization also helps people experience and care for the region through community partnerships, volunteer activities, citizen science, and programs for groups and schools. Visitors can explore HHLT preserves, including Granite Mountain Preserve in Putnam Valley, with more than 500 acres of hardwood forest and over five miles of trails, as well as Humble Bee Hollow, a habitat restoration project on former golf greens and fairways. HHLT provides downloadable trail maps and information about regional outdoor destinations. Its events and volunteer opportunities include native planting and habitat stewardship projects.
