The Household in Conflict Network (HiCN) was established in 2004 by Tilman Brück, Patricia Justino, and Philip Verwimp to address gaps in quantitative research on the micro-level impacts of violent conflict on households. Over the past 15 years, HiCN has significantly influenced the field by publishing over 300 working papers and hosting 17 annual workshops, alongside various thematic meetings. The network promotes collaborative research and supports impactful academic discourse on how violent conflict affects household welfare, including education and health outcomes.
HiCN aims to bridge knowledge gaps between disciplines, enhancing global evidence-based policy-making through engagement with researchers, policymakers, and institutions. The network is dedicated to capacity development for emerging researchers, particularly those from the Global South, fostering diversity and best practices in research methodologies. With over 150 affiliates contributing to its mission, HiCN remains at the forefront of micro-level conflict analysis, striving to elevate its academic presence while addressing ongoing and emerging research questions within this critical domain.
