About HIGH Horizons
HIGH (Heat Indicators for Global Health) Horizons is a brand dedicated to bridging the knowledge gaps surrounding the quantification and monitoring of the direct and indirect impacts of heat exposure on maternal, newborn, and child health. Their goal is to develop a comprehensive understanding of these impacts and implement effective measures to mitigate them.
The brand achieves this through the use of sentinel populations, including pregnant and postpartum women, infants, and healthcare workers in Sweden, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. By tracking the effects of high temperatures on these vulnerable groups, HIGH Horizons aims to create a personalized Early Warning System.
Furthermore, the brand collaborates with health facilities in Kenya, South Africa, and Zimbabwe to co-design and implement adaptation and mitigation actions. These measures are aimed at reducing heat exposure for healthcare workers and lowering carbon emissions from these facilities.
Through rigorous evaluation and comparison, HIGH Horizons seeks to contribute valuable insights into the implications of heat on health. This brand is part of the climate change and health cluster, which includes six Horizon Europe projects, including BlueAdapt, CATALYSE, CLIMOS, IDAlert, and TRIGGER. Funded by the European Union's Horizon Research and Innovation programme, HIGH Horizons is committed to making a positive impact on global health.
