The High Scardus Trail is a remarkable initiative aimed at promoting sustainable tourism along a stunning mountain ridge that stretches parallel to the Mediterranean coast, encompassing the Sharri and Galicica Mountains. Launched in 2017 through a collaboration spearheaded by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), this project focuses on developing and enhancing trail infrastructure, with significant contributions from local experts. A key milestone came in 2020 when GIZ partnered with Trail Angels GmbH, an Austrian company specializing in sustainable tourism, to transform the High Scardus Trail into an individually bookable long-distance hiking experience, complemented by a regional trail information and booking center.
In 2022, further advancements were made through a partnership with Outdooractive, a leader in digital outdoor tourism, enhancing the trail’s online presence and accessibility. Visitors can explore various packages and utilize the Online Travel Planner service to effectively plan their hiking journeys. The High Scardus Trail is not just a pathway; it is an evolving experience that connects nature lovers with the stunning landscapes of the region
