High Country Working Equitation

High Country Working Equitation (HCWE) is a Colorado 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to growing and supporting Working Equitation. The sport welcomes riders of all skill levels, riding disciplines, and horse breeds, bringing together classical riding and practical skills traditionally used in farm and ranch work. HCWE aims to provide educational and competitive opportunities for riders and help U.S. participants represent American cultural traditions on the international stage.

The organization offers shows, clinics, and other learning and competition opportunities, supported by sponsorships, membership dues, and fees. Working Equitation typically includes four phases: dressage, which emphasizes precise movements and subtle communication; ease of handling, an obstacle course that becomes more demanding at higher levels; and speed, where riders complete an obstacle course quickly while maintaining accuracy. An optional cow trial tests a team’s speed, precision, and teamwork while handling cattle.

HCWE also shares event information, current standings, membership details, policies, and volunteer opportunities. Based in Colorado, the organization invites riders and supporters to join, participate, and contribute to its equestrian community.
