Hill 70 is a commemorative and educational project dedicated to preserving the history and legacy of the Battle of Hill 70, a pivotal First World War engagement fought in August 1917 near Lens, France. The battle was the first major operation led by Canadian commander Lieutenant-General Arthur Currie, whose plan enabled the Canadian Corps to capture and hold strategically important high ground against repeated German counterattacks. The project presents Hill 70 as a defining moment in Canada’s development as a nation capable of independent military leadership.
At the heart of its work is the Hill 70 Monument and Memorial Park in Loos-en-Gohelle, which honours those who fought and died and invites visitors to reflect on leadership, sacrifice, and nationhood. The organization shares the story through battlefield information, visitor resources, a pavilion project, films, books, learning materials, and accounts of Victoria Cross recipients. It also supports remembrance through events, the Hill 70 Tartan, and the Hill 70 Pipes and Drums.
