Hippiatri

Kalevi Karenko is a specialist equine veterinarian, or hippiatrist, who has provided veterinary care for horses in Uusimaa and the Helsinki metropolitan area. He began working as an independent practitioner in 1995 and later joined colleagues at the Equivet horse clinic at Vermo racetrack. His long career has covered a wide range of horse health concerns, with services including clinical examinations, stable visits and radiographic imaging.

Karenko has offered mobile visits across a broad area, from Hanko to Loviisa, and has used modern, hospital-grade X-ray equipment for examinations at clients’ stables. Imaging can help assess issues such as bone fragments in foals, dental concerns and suspected sand accumulation in the digestive tract. He emphasizes that a lame horse must first receive a clinical examination; an X-ray alone is not a lameness assessment.

Karenko has retired from regular practice. He may still perform occasional surgeries at Equivet and make limited visits to long-standing clients. His radiography equipment is also available to Equivet veterinarians for stable visits.
