Community Engagement and Transformational Change is a Healthcare Improvement Scotland programme supporting people and communities to shape health and care services across Scotland. Its work is based on the belief that meaningful engagement helps create high-quality, safe, person-centred services and strengthens community health and wellbeing. The programme works with policy makers and service providers to improve how services listen to people, value their views and involve them in planning and development.
It supports inclusive engagement by sharing evidence, applying specialist knowledge and expertise, and providing assurance that communities have a role in shaping services. Its resources include practical participation toolkits, guidance for service change and strategic planning, evaluation tools, case studies, research, reports and animations. The programme also offers opportunities to take part through Citizens’ Panels, citizens’ juries, participation groups and its Engagement Practice Network. Topics covered include health and social care planning, equality and diversity, volunteering, mental health and substance use, and person-centred service design.
