The History Council of Victoria (HCV) is the peak body for history in the Australian state of Victoria. It connects Victorians with the past and encourages people to explore how history informs identity and the world today. The Council champions historians’ work and advocates for the value of history in education, policy and public life, recognising that history can be written about any place, person or period.

HCV offers a year-round program of public events, including an annual lecture, book and author conversations, careers panels, public history webinars and VCE History Roadshows. It also supports history education and recognition through competitions and prizes, including awards for First Peoples’ history in schools and history advocacy. Newsletters, news updates and online resources help keep the history community informed and connected.
