About HJ Enthoven
HJ Enthoven has a rich heritage in British lead refining, with roots dating back to 1820. The company operates from its historic Darley Dale smelter, initially established to support the Mill Close lead mine. Since its acquisition by the parent company Billiton UK Ltd in 1981, the site has evolved into a leading facility for melting, smelting, and refining recycled lead, now producing over 75,000 tonnes annually.
In addition to lead refinement, HJ Enthoven has expanded operations to include battery strip production and polypropylene recovery, aligning with its commitment to sustainability and responsible material usage. The recently restored heritage name reflects the company’s dedication to careful engineering and community responsibility. HJ Enthoven's state-of-the-art facility is equipped with advanced technology, including rotary furnaces and modern alloying lines, ensuring efficient resource recovery.
Guided by a vision of returning more value to society than taken, HJ Enthoven continues to drive innovation while fostering strong community ties
