The Hong Kong Association of Gerontology (HKAG) is a pioneering organization established in 1986 by a group of dedicated professionals focused on elder care services. Its primary objective is to connect institutions, organizations, and individuals involved in gerontological services worldwide, fostering the exchange of experiences and scholarly work to advance elder care in Hong Kong.
In response to the growing demand for elder care knowledge due to an aging population, HKAG founded the Hong Kong College of Gerontology in 2000. This institution provides professional training for individuals aspiring to work in or currently engaged in elder services, aiming to enhance service quality and improve the living standards of senior citizens.
Additionally, the association runs the Hong Kong Residential Care Home Review Program, which evaluates over 700 residential facilities to ensure consistent service quality. Through its various courses, workshops, and programs, HKAG strives to improve the efficiency and standards of elder care services while supporting care homes and staff across the region.
