About The Hong Kong Shipowners Association
HKSOA (Hong Kong Shipowners Association) is one of the largest shipowner associations in the world. Established in 1957, the association was created to provide a platform for shipowners residing in Hong Kong. Its members own, manage, and/or operate a fleet with a combined carrying capacity of over 244 million deadweight tonnes.
The association not only represents the interests of Hong Kong domiciled shipowners and ship managers but also supports the local professions and services crucial to their business. It arranges forums for members to meet and discuss industry concerns, provides educational seminars and circulars to keep members informed about important changes in the shipping environment, and actively represents members at national and international platforms. HKSOA is a member of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and Asian Shipowners' Association (ASA), and collaborates closely with various maritime organizations.
Their vision is to be a responsive trade association that adds value to members' operations, supports Hong Kong as a leading maritime center, and serves as a respected voice for the shipping sector. Membership to HKSOA is open to companies with a registered business in Hong Kong connected with shipping. There are two categories of membership: Ordinary membership for ship owners, ship managers, and ship operators, and Associate membership for all others.
Members enjoy various benefits such as attending association functions, receiving shipping-related news and updates, and voting on resolutions at general meetings. To join HKSOA, interested companies can submit a membership application form online or in print, and they must be sponsored by two members, one of whom must be an Ordinary member. Fees for membership range from HK$5,700 to HK$7,700 per month for Ordinary members and HK$2,500 per month for Associate members.
Overall, HKSOA plays a vital role in promoting and protecting the interests of Hong Kong's shipowners and maritime industry, actively participating in global regulatory matters and fostering engagement between the shipping community and the general public
