About Hmdb
Welcome to HMDB Version 5.0, the Human Metabolome Database. HMDB is a comprehensive, freely available electronic database with detailed information about small molecule metabolites found in the human body. It is a valuable resource for metabolomics, clinical chemistry, biomarker discovery, and general education.
The database currently contains 220,945 metabolite entries, including water-soluble and lipid-soluble metabolites, and 8,610 protein sequences linked to these entries. Each MetaboCard entry contains 130 data fields, with a primary focus on chemical and clinical data, as well as enzymatic or biochemical data. The database also supports extensive text, sequence, chemical structure, MS, and NMR spectral query searches.
In addition, HMDB is part of a suite of databases, such as DrugBank, T3DB, SMPDB, and FooDB, which further enhance its utility. HMDB is a project supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Canada Foundation for Innovation, and The Metabolomics Innovation Centre. It is a vital tool for quantitative metabolomics services, offering ready-to-use metabolomics kits for biomarker discovery and validation.
