About HNU
Holy Names University (HNU) was founded in 1868 by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, making it a respected institution with a rich history in Oakland. Throughout its more than 150 years of existence, HNU has been dedicated to providing education, empowerment, and service to its community. Rooted in Catholic intellectual and spiritual traditions, the university has empowered a diverse student body to think critically, communicate effectively, and pursue leadership opportunities.
HNU offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs, with a special focus on nursing and behavioral sciences. Its nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), while the behavioral sciences programs are approved by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
