About Holodomor
The Holodomor Research and Education Consortium (HREC) is dedicated to promoting research, study, and understanding of the Holodomor – the Famine in Ukraine of 1932–33. Established in 2013 with the generous support of the Temerty Foundation as a project of the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies (CIUS) at the University of Alberta, HREC plays a crucial role in advancing knowledge about this tragic chapter in history. HREC comprises two main divisions: the Research component, which conducts and promotes research through various programs and activities, and the Education component, which focuses on furthering the study and teaching of the Holodomor.
The Education division offers resource development, educator training workshops, and outreach programs to facilitate the inclusion of the Holodomor in curricula. Through its dedicated team and partnerships with educational institutions worldwide, HREC aims to preserve the memory of the Holodomor and educate future generations about this significant historical event
