Consumers Energy’s Home Energy Assessment program helps customers find practical ways to reduce household energy use, improve comfort and save money. Customers can choose a free in-home assessment or an online self-assessment. During an in-home visit, a technician evaluates the home room by room and installs recommended upgrades at no cost. The online option lets customers answer questions at their convenience and receive free energy-saving products and a customized report.

Available products include smart thermostats, LED lighting, advanced power strips, showerheads, aerators, dehumidifiers, air purifiers, bathroom exhaust fans, weatherization items and detectors. The program also offers appliance recycling and guidance on additional savings opportunities. Its store provides product browsing and ordering, with free shipping advertised.

Consumers Energy also offers a Smart Thermostat Program for eligible customers. Participants may receive an instant rebate of up to $100 when enrolling a qualifying thermostat and can earn $25 for each summer they remain active. During periods of high electricity demand, thermostats may make temporary temperature adjustments, which customers can override at any time.
