Home Assistant is an open-source home automation platform focused on local control, privacy, and giving users choice in how they manage their smart homes. Created by a worldwide community of tinkerers and DIY enthusiasts, it is a project of the Open Home Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to privacy, choice, and sustainability in smart homes.

The platform connects with devices and services from more than 1,000 brands, helping users monitor and control equipment, build customizable dashboards, and create powerful automations. It can communicate with devices locally, keeping data in the home rather than storing it in the cloud wherever possible. Assist, Home Assistant’s voice assistant, supports natural-language control, while official companion apps let users manage devices and receive notifications on mobile devices and smartwatches.

Home Assistant also offers energy management tools, screen dashboards through Home Assistant Cast, and support for extensions such as AdGuard and Node-RED. Its hardware includes Home Assistant Green, Connect ZBT-2, Connect ZWA-2, and Voice Preview Edition.
