Deano’s Nemos provides private, autism-specialised swimming lessons for children in Maitland and the wider Hunter Valley and Newcastle area. The service is designed for children who benefit from individual attention and a calm, low-distraction learning environment, including those with sensory processing or communication difficulties, developmental delays, and other support needs. Lessons are available in the familiarity of a family’s backyard pool or at the business’s indoor pool, which is heated to 33 degrees and reserved for lessons.

Each child’s program is tailored to their needs and goals. An initial 30-minute assessment helps identify areas to focus on and gives the instructor time to build rapport and learn about the family’s concerns. Lessons combine structured teaching, fun activities, positive encouragement, and a focus on helping children feel safe and confident in the water. Deano’s Nemos is Autism Swim Approved, and its instructors draw on relevant training and experience to teach swimming and water safety. Families receive progress feedback after lessons and can contact the instructor with questions.
