Hon Hsing Athletic Club is a Vancouver-based Chinese-Canadian cultural organization and lion and dragon dance troupe that has served the community since 1939. Beginning as a small troupe that performed fundraisers during the Second World War, it has grown into a longstanding part of Vancouver’s Chinatown and a leading troupe in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland. Led by Sifu Danny Quon, Sifu Raymond Ng, and Darren Jhong, the club is dedicated to sharing Chinese culture and traditions with the next generation of Canadian youth.
The club offers traditional lion and dragon dance performances for Lunar New Year, corporate and grand openings, weddings, banquets, birthdays, baby showers, family celebrations, and community festivals. Performances take place at storefronts, schools, hotels, and neighbourhood events, bringing cultural entertainment and Choi Cheng rituals to a range of occasions. Hon Hsing reports partnering with more than 150 clients across Vancouver and the Lower Mainland over the past decade and performing more than 80 times annually.
