Hoop Stars provides children’s basketball programs in State College and Centre County, Pennsylvania, serving players from preschool through sixth grade. Its classes and activities introduce young athletes to the game while developing basketball skills, coordination, confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Programs include play-based private preschool classes at select preschool programs, public classes for preschoolers and children in kindergarten through second grade, and seasonal camps, clinics, and leagues. The offerings are designed for different ages and stages, from children learning their first dribble to players ready for drills, team concepts, and friendly competition.

Hoop Stars emphasizes a positive coaching environment where effort and encouragement come before the scoreboard. The organization is led by Dan McKenna, a former Penn State basketball player who has more than 30 years of experience teaching young athletes. Its approach combines age-appropriate instruction with engaging activities, helping children build skills and enjoy playing the game. Since its founding, Hoop Stars has grown to serve nearly 10,000 children ages three to thirteen.
