Hope For Desperate Hearts is a nonprofit organization working to improve living conditions for disadvantaged populations in Burkina Faso, where it has served communities since November 2012. Since April 2017, it has also supported the wellbeing of the African community in New York. Its programs focus on education, practical assistance, and opportunities for individuals and families to build a better future.
The organization’s Baïta Barro Memorial Fund supports two education initiatives honoring a dedicated board member and lifelong educator. The Baïta Barro Scholarship helps girls from disadvantaged backgrounds in Burkina Faso pursue college education, while an annual backpack drive provides schoolchildren with backpacks during the back-to-school season. The organization also distributed 100 chickens to 20 women in 2025, giving each recipient four hens and a rooster to support egg production and potential income from local sales.
Hope For Desperate Hearts welcomes donations and community involvement, including organizing backpack or clothing drives and sharing information about its work. Tax-deductible contributions help make its programs possible.
