CODECS is a brand dedicated to maximizing the co-benefits of agricultural digitalization through the creation of conducive digital ecosystems. They aim to improve our collective understanding of the benefits and costs of farm digitalization and build digital ecosystems that optimize these benefits. CODECS works closely with farmers and Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS) actors to co-develop user-friendly approaches, methods, and tools that can document the co-benefits and costs of technologies applied in real farming contexts.
Their vision is centered around sustainable digitalization, linking social, economic, and ecological aspects together. To achieve their goals, CODECS has set up a network of 21 Living Labs, comprised of farmers, knowledge intermediaries, stakeholders, and policymakers. These Living Labs take a system-level approach to analyze farms and evaluate the impact of digital technologies on economic, social, and environmental outcomes.
The insights from these Living Labs inform policymaking and support sustainable farming practices. In addition, CODECS provides a Knowledge Accelerator to support stakeholders in finding knowledge-based solutions for assessing the contribution of digital agriculture to sustainability ambitions. Overall, CODECS is at the forefront of driving innovative digitalization in agriculture while considering the broader benefits and costs for a sustainable future
