Horselands is a 100% New Zealand family-owned and operated brand that has been proudly providing a wide range of quality equestrian and lifestyle products for over 40 years. It all began in 1975 when Rod Simpson, having worked for Europe's most famous riding apparel manufacturer, Harry Hall, returned to Auckland. Convinced that New Zealand could manufacture riding apparel to world-quality standards, Rod and his brother Jim created Chevalier.

The company name was later changed to Chevalier due to difficulties in obtaining the original name. With the acquisition of Caulders Saddlery and Allenco, a cut, measure, and trim business, a skilled workforce was established. A collaboration with Auckland knitting mills resulted in the production of innovative 4-way stretch nylon fabric for jodhpurs.

Chevalier quickly gained popularity, especially for their jodhpurs with the new fabric. In the 1980s, a large factory and showroom were established, making Chevalier the largest equestrian wholesaler in New Zealand. They supplied major retailers and exported to countries like Australia, the USA, and Japan.

In the 1990s, Chevalier faced pressure from imports but continued to serve the farming community with their quality moleskins and oilskins. They also ventured into retail, opening Horselands stores in different locations. In 2003, employees became shareholders, and Horselands Silverdale became owner operated.

In 2006, Chevalier and Horselands were taken over by a mother-daughter duo, who aimed to build a sustainable New Zealand business. Horselands continues to uphold its family culture and commitment to providing top-notch products for equestrian enthusiasts
